Local Water Babies have been busy making a splash for Torbay Hospital maternity department raising a total of £500. The little splashers took part in sponsored beach party themed swimming lessons which had them doing the limbo under a woggle, playing beach volley ball and racing rafts across the pool!

Kate Evans has been running Water Babies classes across Torbay and South Devon since 2009, when she made a career change from an Emergency Department Doctor to a full time baby swimming teacher. Water Babies Cornwall and South Devon now teach over 800 babies a week.

Kate said: “We are thrilled to be able to support our local maternity departments. Almost all of the babies who swim with us will have used the maternity departments and benefitted from the excellent care they deliver. It is fantastic to be able to give something back to them. We are delighted that they money is being spent on making the birthing rooms more like a home-from-home.”

Gemma Body, Delivery Suite Coordinator at Torbay Hospital, said: “A huge thank you to Water Babies for generously donating £500 to the Delivery Suite Normal Birth Group. We are delighted that this will be used to improve the environment and create a more positive birthing experience for women in south Devon. Fundraising is on-going with the eventual aim of improving the environment in all the birthing rooms.”
