Participation

Our Trust vision is to provide services with which we ourselves would happily be treated, and which we would recommend to our family and friends. We can only be successful in achieving this if we listen to and act on what children, young people and their families tell us they want from their healthcare services. The active involvement of children, young people and their families in all elements of service development and delivery is therefore integral to our model of service provision.

This means that:

  • for individuals, children, young people, parents and carers are supported to be meaningfully involved in their life choices, care or treatment taking account of their personal needs, abilities and aspirations.
  • for children and young people, as part of a group or community there will be a range of opportunities to take part in shared decision making about service planning, design and evaluation around those groups and communities that they identify with.
  • for children, young people, parents and carers as a whole, senior managers will ensure that the views of service users are part of the big decisions; that the views of children and young people enable Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust to really understand the issues that they face.
