The Paediatrics team aim to enable your child to develop their optimum potential for physical independence, helping you to help your child.

The team help to advise parents about special ways of carrying and holding a young child and can show them the best way of helping the child move and explore independently.

One of the Physiotherapists will consult with the parent when planning the child’s treatment programme, which will be tailored to their needs. Ensuring that all – children, parents, carers and physiotherapists work as a team.

How to access the service

Referrals are triaged and parents are then invited to opt in, before being allocated and invited to attend an assessment at their local clinic.

Outpatient clinics are held at John Parkes Unit (Torbay Hospital), Newton Abbot and Totnes hospitals, Dartmouth Clinic and Mayfield and Bidwell Brook Special schools. Appointments are also held at Brixham Hospital and also home visits when appropriate.
