Brixham Hospital League of Friends and Brixham Does Care, in partnership with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, are pleased to announce that on 9 June 2017 a planning application was submitted to build a new Day Care and Community Centre on the Brixham Hospital site.
The centre will be built and run by the voluntary sector in Brixham with support from the local NHS Trust. Public engagement and information events will be held in Brixham during the two months planning application period, we welcome interest and feedback on these proposals from the community.
Peter Day, Chairman of Brixham Hospital League of Friends, said “The League of Friends through the generosity of the Brixham community over many years are delighted to be able to fund the much needed new Day Care and Community Centre, providing an expanded Day Care provision within the town”.
Emma Barton, Director of Brixham Does Care, said “We are excited by the new partnership with the Hospital League of Friends and the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. This has provided an opportunity to work on a cohesive project by bringing people together promoting the authentic voice of Brixham. The new facility will enable people to live within the community and provide access to a variety of health and care services. We will be aiming to provide wellbeing, social and mental interaction and also to support care givers to have a much needed break. The centre will be inviting and accessible to all the community and will be focal point for everyone”
Mairead McAlinden, Chief Executive of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust said: “This is a fine example of what can be achieved when the NHS works closely with voluntary sector organisations like Brixham Does Care and the Brixham Hospital League of Friends, and will result in being able to offer more health and care to people closer to home. I would like to extend my thanks to our voluntary sector partners and the many people who have made donations, whether their time or money, to make this exciting new centre possible for the people of Brixham.”
