Technology enabled care showcased in Torbay

Published: 27 June 2019

Local people are being given the chance to find out more about how Technology Enabled Care Services (TECS) can transform lives at an information event this weekend in Brixham.

Technology enabled care is a service that uses technology to support people with long-term conditions to stay independent, well and receive a level of care and support that is right for them in a non-invasive way. It can also offer reassurance to family members about their loved ones. It could, for example, be a system that would notify a family member if a loved one has missed medication or activated a pendant alarm.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust works with NRS Healthcare – a clinically led TECS service – to support Torbay residents in discovering technology that can support them to stay healthy, access their community and remain in their own home.

The NRS Healthcare TECS team is holding an information event to raise awareness of the range of services and technologies that are available to support people and their carers in Torbay. The team will be available to answer any questions and to demonstrate some of the technologies that are available, on:

  • Saturday 29 June on Fore Street, Brixham – outside Tesco (9am until 4pm)

Sarah Jones, Technology Enabled Care Services Strategy and Development Manager at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Technology can make a huge difference to people’s lives – including their families and carers. It can, for example, help by raising an alert if you have a fall or need help, reminding you to eat, drink or go to an appointment.

“It can help people regain some independence they have lost by helping them to feel safe to go outdoors and visit a neighbour or walk the dogs knowing that help is available if they need it.

“There are many ways technology can help people and now we have a provider (NRS Healthcare) with clinical support to talk through what is important to you and how they can help you in Torbay.

“The technology enabled care service is already supporting around 2,000 people in Torbay to live healthy, fulfilled and independent lives but we want to enable more people to benefit from the range of technology that is available.

“I would encourage people to pop along to visit the team in Brixham on Saturday to find out about the host of technology services that are available.”
