The League of Friends, of the former Paignton Community Hospital, has donated hundreds of pounds worth of new equipment to the physiotherapy team based at Paignton Health and Wellbeing Centre.

The League’s donation of equipment will assist Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust’s physiotherapy team who look after NHS patients in the local area.

The equipment donated by the League includes:

  • Weighted medicine balls – used for shoulder and lumber spine stability work
  • A series of weighted kettle bells – to allow for lower limb stability and strength work
  • TRX suspension equipment – To allow patients to use their body weight to help with their rehabilitation of lower, upper and spinal injuries
  • A hand dynometer – To allow the team to specifically measure grip to help measure a patient’s response to physiotherapy.

Corinne Lowe, Chair of Paignton’s League of Friends, said: “The League of Friends is delighted to provide a variety of equipment for the physiotherapists based at Paignton Health and Wellbeing Centre.

“This equipment will mainly be used for testing and improving upper body strength, grip and mobility for patients who have suffered from medical conditions which reduces these capabilities.”

Christopher Ward, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust’s Community Lead Physiotherapist for Paignton, said: The Paignton physiotherapy team is really grateful for the very generous donation of new equipment from the League of Friends.

“This donation allows us to provide the high level of physiotherapy offered here at Paignton Health and Wellbeing Centre.”
