Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT), a recognised Work Experience – Gold Standard accredited organisation, launched National Work Experience Month by holding a successful careers open day for local students.

TSDFT is one of only six NHS Trusts, and the only in one in Devon and Cornwall, to achieve the Gold Standard accreditation by experts Fair Train*, who attended the event to celebrate and raise awareness of the work being done to deliver high quality work experience throughout the UK.

The open day was held at the Horizon centre, Torbay Hospital, and was attended by 23 local education providers with over 320 students. The event started with a ‘Business Breakfast’ which was held in the morning with presentations from Fair Train CEO, Rod Nakiel; TSDFT Chairman, Sir Richard Ibbotson; as well as representatives from South Devon College, Proud to Care, and the Trust’s Employability Hub.

In the afternoon, the students attended a career exhibition with stalls from various health and care teams. Students took the opportunity to talk to professionals from various fields, including: radiography, nursing, IT, physiotherapy and more; about career pathways and discuss specific roles. They were also able to take part in various demonstrations and group discussions.

Sir Richard Ibbotson, Chairman of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I’m enormously proud that the Trust’s work towards being a high quality training provider has been recognised nationally, and the enthusiasm shown at the open day by both students and staff was inspiring.”
