Apprenticeship FAQs and contact details

Who can apply for an Apprenticeship?

Anyone who has resided in England for at least the last 3 years and aged 16 years or over; whether employed, unemployed or leaving school; there is no upper age limit. There are no formal qualifications needed to do an Apprenticeship however some employers may ask for GCSEs (A-C) in English, Maths and Science.

How long does an Apprenticeship last?

An Apprenticeship can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship being undertaken. As a guide, an Intermediate Level 2 Apprenticeship usually takes around 12 to 18 months to complete, Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeships around 18 – 24 months. Higher level Apprenticeships can last up to 36/48 months.

How is training delivered?

The Apprenticeship is a work-based vocational qualification, which means that all of the vocational training and assessment for the Apprenticeship will be completed within the workplace. Apprentices build a portfolio of evidence throughout their Apprenticeship. Dedicated Training Officers and Assessors observe Apprentices in the workplace offering guidance and support throughout the qualification.

Most Apprenticeships require that the learner undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA). The Assessor and work based manager will determine if the learner is ready to enter the gateway for their EPA. The EPA is completed to assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours learnt throughout the Apprenticeship. Learners will be fully prepared for the EPA. The content of the EPA will vary, depending on which Apprenticeship being undertaken.

What do I do when I’ve finished?

Our aim is to employ all new Apprentices with the Trust. As long as the Apprentice has fulfilled the Apprenticeship requirement, we will offer a permanent job within our Trust. There also may be an opportunity to progress onto the next level of Apprenticeship.
