Staff Hero Awards

We have around 6,000 staff and volunteers working round the clock to provide vital health, care and support services that we all rely on. We know that every day, their special acts of kindness , attention to detail and new ideas make a real difference to people’s lives. We can’t offer them bonuses, but can we say ‘thank you’ and recognise the exceptional contribution they make, through our staff awards scheme.

Nominations are open all year round, and every two months, our Chairman and Executive Team hold a presentation ceremony with breakfast pastries in the Bay View Restaurant at Torbay Hospital. Also, from September 2019, we are re-introducing an annual awards evening, where we will recognise the most outstanding award winners from the past twelve months.

We welcome nominations from anyone for:

  • Members of our staff
  • Our volunteers, members and governors
  • Staff of our partner organisations – including Torbay Pharmaceuticals, Health and Care Videos, and the voluntary sector (eg Brixham Does Care, Dartmouth Caring)

Outstanding contribution to sharing information

People tell us that they only want to tell their story once – they expect the GP, social worker, nurse, paramedic, midwife or other health professional to share information with anyone else involved in their care who needs to know. We are always striving to make best use of new technology to support us in sharing information between teams and across different organisations. If you know of an individual, team or project that has helped make progress in this area, please nominate them in this category.

Outstanding contribution to strengthening partnerships

We have around 6,000 staff and none of them works in isolation. They are all part of a team. Each team works with other teams, for example in the NHS, in local councils, charities, care homes, GP practices and other Trusts. We know that we work best through strong partnerships. This award, which is also open to staff or volunteers working with partner organisations, recognises those individuals or teams who have contributed to developing strong and effective partnership working.

Outstanding contribution to wellbeing at work

We know that staff who enjoy their work deliver and support great care. We want our staff to feel valued and involved, to know that their contribution to our organisation counts and to feel that they can create opportunities for innovation and improvement. This award shines a light on those who help make our organisation a fabulous place to work.

Outstanding contribution to prevention and staying well

More people are now living longer and we want to support them to remain well so that they enjoy life in older age. Preventing illness and helping people to stay healthy and manage their health conditions is really important. Please nominate anyone who has made a significant contribution in this area.

Outstanding contribution to right care in the right place

All our staff, wherever they work, whatever their role, are driven by our aim to support and empower people to be as well and as independent as possible. We want to make sure people are in the right place for the care they need, and that we focus on the individual and what is important to them, not just their underlying health condition. Our frontline nurses, doctors, therapists and other clinicians are supported by an amazing team of support staff in offices, clinics and laboratories. Please nominate anyone whose contribution really stands out.

Chairman’s Hero of Heroes

Our Chairman, Sir Richard Ibbotson, presents awards to our staff heroes throughout the year. This is his opportunity to reflect on their various achievements and select one person or team whose contribution he feels has been outstanding in an already excellent field.
