Who can nominate?
We want everyone to take the chance to say thank you.
Anyone can submit a nomination and you can nominate as many people as you want.
The only exception is that you can’t nominate yourself. But you can nominate your colleagues who are doing brilliant things for patients and each other.
When making a nomination, we would like you to consider our trust values.
Respect and dignity
Individuals or teams who give time to any person who is in need of help. They demonstrate regard for the feelings and wishes of others and treat each person with value and as an individual.
Clinical example: A Palliative Care Nurse who strives to achieve the highest standard of support and care to a patient and their families. They take time to listen and support both the patient and their family, going above and beyond in their care.
Non-Clinical example: An outpatient’s receptionist who greets every patient in a warm and welcoming way. They take into consideration patient’s anxiety and comfort them whilst they are waiting.
Commitment to quality of care
Individuals or teams who show an exemplary commitment to quality of care through working to continually improve and develop their services, learning from mistakes, or patient safety initiatives. Quality of care is demonstrated through clinical effectiveness and patient experience.
Clinical example: A team who have taken on board feedback from service users to develop the effectiveness of the care they provide, learning from previous experiences to move forward in delivering the highest quality of care.
Non-Clinical example: A member of the Learning and Development Team who set up a new training programme.
Compassion and kindness
An individual award for staff that search for the things they can do, however small, to give comfort and relieve suffering. Staff who find time for patients, carers, families, and their colleagues. They do not wait to be asked, because they care.
Clinical example: An Auxiliary Nurse who is deeply caring and compassionate. Patients feel safe and important under her care and her attention to detail is second to none. She remains calm under pressure and regularly receives Thank You cards from patients and family members.
Non-Clinical example: A Health and Social Care Co-ordinator who is friendly and professional making the assessment process as smooth as possible for patient, their families and allied health care professionals.
Individuals and teams who strive to improve health, wellbeing and people’s experiences of the NHS. This may be demonstrated through clinical practice, service improvements or innovation.
Clinical example: Individuals and teams running projects to improve lives.
Non-Clinical example: A member of the PALS team who handles complaints in a professional manner and reassures patients they are being listened to and understood.
Working together for patients
This category is a partnership or team award where a group consistently support one another to achieve great things, in line with the vales and goals of the organisation. They continuously seek to improve their service and make a tangible difference to Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust.
Clinical example: An inpatient team who work together to provide outstanding care and social care support to patients and each other. They continually look for ways to improve patient experience, using new innovative ideas.
Non-Clinical example: A Project Officer who is leading on a project to improve the health and social care experience of the patients, liaising with other departments and organisations.
Individuals or teams that treat everyone as individuals, giving time to comfort anyone who needs it, whether that is a colleague, patient or stranger. They strive to help anyone who needs it and ensure that no-one is excluded.
Clinical example: A team who have developed their service to ensure that all areas of Torbay and South Devon and all patients can access services. Ensuring that care and social care is available consistently across Torbay and South Devon.
Non-Clinical example: An Administration Assistant who goes above and beyond to find a patient an interpreter at short notice for their appointment, or additional literature to be sent in an alternative language to ensure language barriers are eliminated.
