Acute Medicine
Acute (Internal) Medicine is a newer and growing specialty. It looks after patients with sudden medical illnesses during the first 72 hours of their hospital stay. This includes assessing, investigating, diagnosing, and treating patients quickly.
Our team
The department has a multi-disciplinary team. This means we work together to provide safe and caring treatment. Our team includes:
- Medical consultants and junior doctors
- General practitioners and physician associates
- Nurses and healthcare assistants
- Physiotherapists and occupational therapists
- Management and administrative staff
What we do
Our main role is to care for patients who are acutely unwell in hospital.
In recent years, the department has expanded beyond its core role. We now also:
- Support local GPs with urgent medical advice
- Provide an ambulatory emergency care service, helping patients manage sudden medical problems safely at home
We aim to meet the medical needs of the local population while giving care in a safe and caring environment.
