Recovery ward

Nurse attending to patient

After surgery you will be transferred to the recovery unit where you will stay until your vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, breathing an pulse) are stable. You will then be discharged home if you are a day case patient or transferred back to the ward. The nurse looking after you will make sure you are fully awake and pain and nausea free.

As the recovery unit is a busy environment with numerous other patients also recovering from their operations, visitors are not routinely allowed onto the unit.

Certain patients with pre-existing medical conditions and those undergoing more major surgery will be taken straight to the High Dependency or Intensive Care Unit after surgery.
