The Speech and Language Therapy Service aims to enable the members of the population of South Devon with communication disorders and their related conditions to achieve and maintain their communication potential by offering assessment, diagnosis, therapy and support.

The service is provided in Torbay Hospital, community hospitals, health centres, schools, nurseries, nursing homes and patients’ homes.

Intervention by a speech and language therapist seeks to:

1. maximise the communication potential of the individual
2. assist in the psychological adjustment to the presenting condition
3. provide support and advice to parents, relatives and carers.

Referrals

Clients may be referred by GPs, hospital consultants and other health, education and social services professionals. Clients may also refer themselves as we have an “open” referral system.
