How to access Technology Enabled Care (TEC)

There are two access routes for TEC

1. Purchasing privately

Devon County Council

For people living in the Devon County Council area:

Torbay Council

For people living in the Torbay Council area:

  • NRS Healthcare. NRS work with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) to provide TEC services within Torbay

  • Torbay Disability Information Service (DIS) have information on telecare providers – Link to Torbay DIS lists
  • There are many well-known online shopping retailers which stock a wide range of solutions

2. Funded via Local Authority

Provision of TEC can be assessed for via the Council area you live within, i.e. Torbay Council or Devon County Council.

Devon County Council

If you live or are registered with a GP within the Devon County Council area, TEC is provided and funded by Devon County Council following an assessment under the Care Act, which shows that you have an eligible need and you meet the criteria for funded technology.

Millbrook Healthcare is commissioned by Devon County Council to deliver and install TEC solutions to the people of Devon.

Torbay Council

NRS Healthcare are commissioned by TSDFT to deliver TEC solutions directly to residents of Torbay. NRS use TEC to offer people choice and control over how they manage their health and care needs and support people to remain as independent as possible both in their own homes and in the community. NRS work with carers and family members to use technology to support them as they care for someone and manage other commitments.

If you live within the Torbay Council area, TSDFT may provide TEC following an assessment under the Care Act, which shows that you have an eligible need and you meet the criteria for funded technology. For an assessment please contact the Customer Service Centre (CSC) on 01803 219700.
