Help in a health emergency: in the local area there are a range of health services that you can access if you are unwell. Please choose the service which will best look after your needs so you can get the help you need. Only visit the Emergency Department if you have a life-threatening emergency.

Urgent care

Urgent care services are for people who have a problem that needs attention the same day, but is not life threatening or life changing. This can be provided by our Urgent Treatment Centres, various health professionals, including GPs, hospital doctors and nurses in various locations, and health centres.

Emergency care

Emergency care is for people who have a condition that is life threatening or presents an immediate risk to long term health. An emergency is ‘a critical or life-threatening situation’. Emergency care is provided by the Emergency Department at Torbay Hospital.

The 'current longest waiting time' refers to the current waiting time to be seen and fully assessed by a nurse/paramedic Emergency/MIU practitioner. Once you are seen by a nurse or paramedic Emergency/MIU practitioner you may still have to wait several hours for treatment, especially when the department is busy.

Please note that Dawlish Minor Injury Unit is currently closed.
