Services

Inpatients

A urological service is provided under the direction of three Consultant Urologists.

The service encompasses the investigation and management of urological problems including endoscopic surgery for prostatic disease and stones, and medical and surgical treatment for urological cancer and incontinence. In support of the latter, there is a departmental urodynamics laboratory.

A special service to remove kidney stones without surgery is provided quarterly.

Shock waves are sent through the stone to break it down so that the stone fragments can be passed naturally and no further invasive treatment is necessary. The treatment is known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL).

Outpatients

A urological Outpatient service is provided at Torbay District General Hospital twice a week and peripheral hospital clinics at Newton Abbot, Paignton, Teignmouth, and Totnes hospitals.

Subfertility

The Urology Department works in collaboration with the Gynaecologists in the investigation and treatment of infertile couples.
