June’s story
June has spent her life with her husband managing pubs and clubs in the north of England. After retiring, she lived abroad with her husband in Spain for 8 years, until he died. She then decided to return to the UK to Torbay to be near her eldest daughter. Her sons still live in the north of England.
June lives alone and always finds things to keep her busy at home, and she is an avid knitter. After all her years in the hospitality industry it’s important to June to be socially active, especially as she has the early stages of Alzheimer’s. June knows that the social contact may help her to retain her memory for longer.
June’s Wellbeing Co-ordinator introduced her to a monthly lunch group, Knit and Natter, and a few coffee groups in the Bay. She has now made these regular features of her life in Torbay.
June says: “Wellbeing Torbay supported me in finding a new social life after losing my husband of 57 years and moving back to this country. I now have a new and active social life and look forward to time with the lunch bunch and socialising.”
