Carers Week 5 – 11 June – Recognising and supporting carers in the community

This year Torbay has organised a programme of events during Carers Week designed to reach a large number and variety of carers of all ages. The events are open to unpaid carers across Torbay. There will be an opportunity for carers to take part in a whole host of activities.

5 – 11 June

Free coffee and cake at Torbay Hospital – Show your carers card at Advice Point, Level 4 Main Entrance between 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, to get a voucher.

Monday, 5 June

Parkinson’s Support – Paignton Carers Centre in Paignton Library, 10.30am – 11.30am or 1.30pm – 2.30pm. If you support someone with Parkinson’s, find out about support for them and also for your health, wellbeing, discounts etc.

‘The Great Torquay Saturday Night Out’ Talk* – Paignton Library, 2pm – 3.30pm. Dr Kevin Dixon will take you on an imaginary journey from Torre to the Strand. Guaranteed to make you feel young again!

Tuesday, 6 June

Launch of Paignton Community Hub with carer drop-in – Paignton Library, 12 noon – 4pm. Find out about all support to carers, plus cost-of-living and community support from local organisations. Free coffee and cake with your Carers Card at Caffe Cosi, Paignton Library.

Brixham Carers Centre Drop-in – Friends Centre at Brixham Hospital, 10am – 4pm. For any advice, information or support.

Working and Caring Online for TSDFT / Council employees, 12 noon- 1pm. 5 minute presentations about support at work including health and wellbeing checks, on-line resources, carer passport etc.

Making Zentangles* – South devon College, 1pm – 2.30pm. Create the experience of a sense of timelessness, freedom and complete focus rather than doodling. Try the class!

Torre Abbey Pitch & Putt* – 11.30am – 12.45pm. Have some fun at playing pitch & putt.

Working and Caring* – Online, 6pm- 7pm. Short presentations about support at work including health + wellbeing checks, on-line resources, carer passport etc.

Wednesday, 7 June

Kent’s Cavern tour* – 2pm – 3pm. Just a few places left!

Family event for parent and sibling carers* – Mayfield School, 3pm – 6pm. Information stands, barbecue, and activities.

Thursday, 8 June

Brixham Carers Centre Drop-in Friends Centre at Brixham Hospital, 10am – 4pm. For any advice, information or support.

Coronation Zoom Talk – Online, 11am – 12 noon. Explore coronation traditions across the centuries. Interesting session with Fiona from the Royal Collection Trust.

Friday, 9 June

Drumming Workshop – Paignton Library, 10.30am – 11.30am. Carers who have attended before, thoroughly enjoyed this music making workshop and therapeutic session. No experience needed. Come and join in!
