Members of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust’s breast cancer and Macmillan psycho-oncology team recently held a ‘male moving on’ focus group for men who have been diagnosed, treated or recovered from breast cancer.

Part of a national initiative, this is the first face-to-face Male Moving on Group in the UK. Around 370 men are diagnosed with Breast Cancer in the UK each year, and the group hope to inspire men to get checked if they have any concerns.

The group, supported by members of the breast care team and the Macmillan counsellor, talk about their own experiences and their ideas and commitment to raise awareness of breast cancer in men. They will be supporting colleagues next month with a stand in Torbay Hospital’s main entrance.

T-shirts were donated by Walk the Walk, who were instrumental in helping to set up a national male breast cancer virtual meet up which is now run independently.

Thank you to colleagues who made this possible, to the attendees who spoke about their experience and supported each other, and Sam’s mom for making sausage rolls and Stef for making cakes.
