Emergency period products are now available free of charge in designated locations at Torbay Hospital for visitors, volunteers and staff to use as needed.

Staff at Torbay Hospital have been working together over recent months to make emergency period products available in a number of publicly accessible toilets.

Now, thanks to a generous donation from our trade union partners Unison, emergency period products will be available for the next twelve months.

Jane Harris, Associate Director of Communications and Partnerships, said: “We are delighted that our trade union partners at Unison are supporting this initiative and we are very grateful for their support.

“Over the past few months, our dedicated colleagues have been personally purchasing period products and making them available to those who need them. I’d like to say a special thank you to Tracy Wood and Julia Baker who both saw the need and took action to make a positive difference.”

Alison Evans, Staff Side Partnership Lead, said: “Unison are very proud to support this initiative. It feels particularly fitting that we are able to make this donation as we celebrate International Women’s day.”

“We hope that these products will be helpful for visitors, volunteers or colleagues who run out of period products while at Torbay Hospital. Periods are a normal part of life and providing free period products for emergency situations can make a big difference to people’s comfort and wellbeing.”
