Our Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity has celebrated 30 years of supporting local healthcare by bringing together donors, fundraisers, sponsors and supporters at a special event to recognise the difference they have made to patients, families and NHS colleagues across Torbay and South Devon.

The event brought together many of the people who have supported our Charity over the past three decades, providing an opportunity to thank the individuals, families, community groups, local businesses and organisations whose generosity has helped make things better for people using health and care services across our communities.

Since it was established in 1996, Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity has funded projects and initiatives that go above and beyond what NHS funding alone can provide. Over the past year alone, our Charity has supported more than 50 different services and teams across acute, community and adult social care services. This has included funding specialist equipment to improve comfort for people receiving cancer treatment, creating opportunities for young adult carers to build confidence and resilience and supporting projects that enhance the environments where care is provided.

Through initiatives such as its work with Make Southwest, our Charity has also helped bring art and creativity into healthcare settings, creating more welcoming and inspiring spaces for patients, visitors and colleagues.

Guests at the event heard stories of the impact that our Charity continues to have across Torbay and South Devon and reflected on the countless fundraising activities, donations and acts of generosity that have helped shape our Charity’s work over the last 30 years.

Dr Martin Beaman, Chair, said: “This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the generosity and community spirit that helps make so much possible across Torbay and South Devon. For 30 years, our charity has supported projects that enhance care, improve environments and create opportunities for patients, families and colleagues. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the charity over the years and proud to be part of a wider network of community groups, local charities, businesses, volunteers and supporters who make such a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of our communities.”

Becky Chown, Fundraising Manager, said: “This event was all about saying thank you. Our Charity simply wouldn’t exist without the generosity, passion and commitment of our supporters. Every person who has donated, fundraised, sponsored an event, volunteered their time or championed our work has helped us make things better for patients, families and colleagues. It was wonderful to come together and celebrate the people who have made such a difference over the past 30 years.”

Judith Burgess, who attended the event said: “It was most interesting to learn about all the good things you have achieved in the last 30 years. The cream tea, cake and drinks were a lovely thought and a real treat! Keep up the good work.”

Becky added: “While this anniversary is an opportunity to look back and celebrate all that has been achieved, it is also a chance to reflect on the strength of support for our NHS across Torbay and South Devon. We are incredibly proud of what has been accomplished over the past 30 years and grateful to everyone who continues to support our charity and the communities we serve.”
