Torbay and South Devon NHS shortlisted in five categories at national workforce awards

We’re delighted to share that a number of our colleagues and programmes have been shortlisted in five categories at this year’s Nursing Times Workforce Awards.

The awards recognise excellence in workforce development, education, leadership, recruitment and support for NHS staff.

Our finalists are:

Best Recruitment Experience

Internationally Educated Nurse of the Year

Manager of the Year (Non-Clinical)

Practice Educator of the Year

Preceptorship Programme of the Year

The shortlist highlights a range of work taking place across Torbay and South Devon to support people at every stage of their healthcare careers, from creating routes into nursing and helping newly qualified colleagues settle into professional practice, to supporting internationally educated nurses and developing future leaders.

Gabriel Moroti, Nurse, New Forrest Ward, said: “This recognition means so much because it reflects not only my personal growth, but also the difference I have been able to make to patients and colleagues.

“I am most proud of supporting fellow internationally educated nurses and newly qualified colleagues to build confidence, develop professionally, and feel valued within the NHS.”

Gabriel’s place among the Nursing Times Workforce Awards finalists follows earlier recognition closer to home, winning our People’s Choice Individual Award in May – an award nominated by patients and carers and decided by public vote.

Colleagues in the clinical education team who facilitate the Grow Our Own: Healthcare Support Worker to Registered Nurse Pathway, said: “Being nominated for the Nursing Times Workforce Awards is a real honour and a wonderful recognition of what our team has worked hard to achieve. For us, the nomination represents more than an award, it reflects our commitment to creating opportunities, supporting career development and helping our Healthcare Support Workers progress into registered nursing.

“What we are most proud of is the difference the programme has made to individuals and, ultimately, to our patients and services. Seeing colleagues grow in confidence, achieve their ambitions and develop into compassionate, skilled registered nurses has been incredibly rewarding.”

The winners will be announced on Tuesday 24 November 2026 at the award event in London.
