Appointment priority service launches at Newton Abbot Urgent Treatment Centre

People needing urgent care in Torbay and South Devon are being asked to book a same-day appointment directly with Newton Abbot Urgent Treatment Centre from Monday 28 September 2026.

The appointment priority service is being introduced in response to growing demand for urgent care services. It means that people will have greater certainty about when they will be seen, helping to reduce the time people wait to be seen and helping the service to manage demand more effectively at busy times.

People are being asked to book an appointment by calling Newton Abbot Urgent Treatment Centre directly on 01626 324631. Please note that appointments can only be made for the same day.

Newton Abbot Urgent Treatment Centre is open 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, including bank holidays.

People who walk into Newton Abbot Urgent Treatment Centre without an appointment, will be asked to follow the same procedure, eg call for an appointment, unless you are assessed to be an emergency. Appointments will be prioritised. People who choose to walk in will have to wait longer to be seen, particularly during busy periods unless they are an emergency patient.

The Urgent Treatment Centre can assess and treat a range of urgent but non-life-threatening conditions, including minor injuries such as sprains, strains, cuts, burns, bites and suspected fractures, as well as minor illnesses including tonsillitis, ear infections and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.

The service is not able to provide ongoing management of long-term conditions, repeat prescriptions, treatment for dental problems or routine wound care/dressing changes. People who need support with a long-term condition, routine wound care/dressing changes or repeat medication should contact their GP practice. Anyone experiencing a dental problem should contact their dentist or NHS 111.

Anyone who is more than 12 weeks pregnant, or who has given birth within the last 28 days and have an urgent concern about their pregnancy or recent birth should contact the 24-hour maternity triage line on 01803 656588.

Anyone with a life-threatening illness or injury should continue to call 999 or attend the nearest Emergency Department.
