Our Rainbow Nursery has been praised by Ofsted for the caring and inclusive environment it provides for children and families.

Rainbow Nursery, based on the Torbay Hospital annexe site, supports children from across Torbay and South Devon, including the families of many NHS staff working in hospitals, community services and teams across our organisation.

In its latest inspection, Ofsted highlighted the strong relationships between nursery colleagues and children and recognised the nursery’s inclusive approach, awarding a Strong judgement for both behaviour, attitudes and routines, and inclusion.

Inspectors praised the way nursery colleagues help children build confidence and friendships, and recognised the support provided for children with additional needs. Parents told inspectors that their children are thriving at the nursery.

The findings shine a light on a service that has quietly supported local families for almost 40 years while helping NHS staff balance work and family life.

Tina Mwaro and Jennie Judge, Nursery Managers, said: “Every family is different and we know how important it is for parents to feel confident leaving their children with us each day.

“Our team cares deeply about the children and families we support and I am incredibly proud of the commitment, kindness and professionalism they bring to their work.

“It is a privilege to be part of so many families’ lives and to support parents as they balance work and caring responsibilities.”

As well as being available to local families, Rainbow Nursery plays an important role in supporting our colleagues, helping parents continue their careers while raising young children.

Jess Piper, Chief People Officer, said: “We know that reliable, high-quality childcare can make a real difference for working families.

“Rainbow Nursery is an important part of the support available to colleagues across Torbay and South Devon and helps many of our colleagues continue doing the jobs they love while raising their families.

“We are delighted to see the dedication of the Rainbow team recognised and would like to thank them for the difference they make every day.”

The inspection also highlighted the nursery’s positive culture, with inspectors recognising the secure relationships children develop with nursery colleagues and the support provided to children and families.

While the report identified areas where the nursery can continue to develop, it recognised many of the qualities that matter most to families, including inclusion, wellbeing and a nurturing environment where children can grow in confidence.
