Greater flexibility available for people who juggle working with caring for a family member or friend
Published: 7 October 2021
Torbay Carers Service wants to make all working carers aware of the groundbreaking news announced this week about greater flexibility available in their roles, and to encourage them to complete the consultation below.
On 23 September the government set out new proposals to make the right to request flexible working a ‘day one entitlement’ for every employee in Britain. It will also be introducing a day one right to one week’s unpaid leave for carers balancing a job with caring responsibilities. As a Level 2 Carer Confident employer, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust already offers flexible working for unpaid Carers, but encourages other employers to do the same.
Carers UK’s full statement on this can be read on their website.
The government has also published its response to last year’s carer’s leave consultation. The Government’s new consultation on ‘Making flexible working the default’ can be viewed online and closes on 1 December 2021. Responses are welcomed from both organisations and individuals.
