Further £2.367 million investment to improve safety across our sites

Published: 7 November 2025

We are pleased to share that we have secured an additional £2.367 million from the Estates Safety Fund to reduce critical infrastructure risks at Torbay Hospital.

This funding will enable essential improvements, including:

  • Ventilation upgrades for cancer services
  • Water system enhancements
  • Fire safety improvements
  • Roof edge protection.

This latest investment follows the £7.3 million secured earlier this year, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to addressing the most urgent risks across our ageing estate.

Our estate remains one of the oldest in the country, and earlier this year we were disappointed by delays to the New Hospital Programme. We promised to keep exploring every funding avenue to manage these challenges, and this additional funding reflects that promise.

Chief Executive Joe Teape commented: “We are determined to do everything we can to keep our patients and staff safe. This funding will help us tackle some of the most pressing risks, but the need for significant investment in our estate remains. We will continue to make the case for the resources required to deliver modern, fit-for-purpose facilities for the people we serve.

“Thank you to all our teams who work tirelessly to keep services running safely and smoothly. Your efforts make a real difference every day.”
