  • NHS treatment for groups of people with special needs such as special schools and people with learning disabilities.

People are usually referred to the Special Care Dental Service from other services but please contact us for advice.

To refer someone to the South Devon Special Care Dental Service you can find dental referral guidance and forms (including our referral form – NHS England South West Referral Form Request for Assessment of Patients with Additional Needs). Please note, self-referrals will not be accepted.

Some patients may be accepted for a single course of treatment and then discharged or referred back to their dentist for ongoing maintenance and care, depending on their special care needs. We will inform both the patient and dentist regarding this.
