Opening hours
Castle Circus Health Centre, and Brunel Dental Centre:
- Monday to Friday 8.45am – 4.30pm.
- We are closed at lunchtimes from 12.30pm to 1.15pm
- Car parking charges apply at Castle Circus Health Centre.
Please note: we are closed at weekends and on public holidays.
Services
We provide a specialised dental service for adults and children with complex needs who find it difficult to use general dental services.
We deal with public health issues such as epidemiological surveys, the identification of oral health inequalities in the local population and the provision of oral health promotion activities.
Eligible patients are:
- NHS treatment for people with mental and or physical health problems.
- NHS treatment for individuals with special needs such as wheelchair users, bariatric patients, housebound people.
- NHS treatment for groups of people with special needs such as special schools and people with learning disabilities.
People are usually referred to the Special Care Dental Service from other services but please contact us for advice.

Mandatory NHS treatment includes:
- Urgent treatment
- Examination, diagnosis & advice
- Preventive care for patients
- Education for carers
- Periodontal treatment
- Conservative treatment
- Minor surgical treatment
- Supply & repair of dental appliances
- Taking of radiographs
- Supply of listed drugs & listed appliances
- The issue of prescriptions
Advanced mandatory NHS treatment includes:
- Sedation care
- Domiciliary dental care

Urgent dental care
Urgent NHS Dental treatment is for people who do not have a regular dentist and are in need of urgent dental care in the case of trauma and pain.
South Devon Special Care Dental Service arranges appointments for people who need urgent NHS dental treatment. This is likely to be with a General Dental Practitioner and for the relief of pain.
Once the urgent problem has been resolved, all patients are advised to register with an NHS dentist for full mouth assessment and continuing care.
South Devon Special Care Dental Service are unable to register urgent patients.
