Learning Disability Acute Liaison Nurse Team

There is a qualified learning disabilities nurse team based at Torbay Hospital who helps adults with a learning disability through the process of being in hospital or attending outpatient clinics.

The liaison nurse team will attempt to ensure that people with learning disabilities have access to all the information they need in relation to proposed treatment.

The liaison nurse team will inform hospital staff of any special arrangements required for the person’s appointment, treatment or stay in hospital.

The liaison nurse team will make sure that the hospital staff have all the information they need to care for the person with learning disabilities effectively.

The liaison nurse team can co-ordinate arrangements between the person with learning disabilities, carers and the hospital.

Many wards and departments have learning disability link champions. Please check with individual wards / departments for their contact details prior to coming if the liaison nurse team is not available.
