New Hospital Programme

building a brighter future

Through the New Hospitals Programme (NHP) we will be submitting business cases to redevelop Torbay Hospital in Torquay, which provides acute services to people in Torbay and South Devon. This will offer us an opportunity to make a real difference to how we deliver services with, to, and for our people.

While the need for investment in Torbay Hospital has been recognised nationally, work on the main construction for our hospital won’t be starting until between 2033 and 2035. In the meantime, we are looking at all other funding options to bring forward immediate plans to reduce our critical infrastructure risks and improve the efficiency of our current buildings. See our news release about the NHP Review.

Our estates challenges

Parts of Torbay Hospital date back to the 1920s and a significant proportion of the estate will require significant repair or replacement soon. The condition of the estate can directly affect waiting times for treatment and care as well as patient and staff experience. Due to the age and condition of our estate we have robust mitigation and management plans in place minimise the impact on patients and staff, with our hard-working colleagues working tirelessly to offer the best possible care to our patients.
