Physiotherapy appointment service
Patients Know Best (PKB) will remain available for self-referrals until Friday 25 September
From Friday, online self-referrals through PKB will no longer be available while we transition to our new service.
The new online self-referral form will be available on this page from Monday 28 September. To use the new service, you will need a MY CARE account before completing the online self-referral form.
Self-referrals by our phone number will continue as usual on 0300 456 9987 (local rate), Monday to Friday, 8:30am to midday.
Thank you for your patience.
Physiotherapy helps you regain strength and function after an injury, such as a mild joint sprain or muscle strain. However, not everyone needs to see a physiotherapist.
Watch this short video to learn how to manage your injury at home and identify when you should seek further medical advice.
Before you book, please see our things to try before your physiotherapy appointment. Self-care can often help you recover faster while you wait.

Virtual appointments
Initial appointments are held via secure video consultation so you can see a senior physiotherapist from the comfort of your home.
What is a virtual appointment?
The MSK Physiotherapy Service uses secure video consultations for initial appointments. This allows you to see a senior physiotherapist from the comfort of your home.
During your video appointment, your physiotherapist will:
- discuss your symptoms and concerns
- assess your condition
- provide expert advice and self-management information
- agree a treatment plan with you
Choosing your appointment type: Initial face-to-face appointments are available, but waiting times are usually longer than for video consultations. If you need follow-up appointments, these are usually held face-to-face.
How to join your video consultation
Your assessment will take place via Microsoft Teams. We will send your joining link the day before your appointment by text message, email, or through your MY CARE app. If you have not received your link, please call the Booking Team to resend it.
To prepare for your call:
- Find a private space: Choose a quiet room where you feel comfortable. You may be asked to show the area of your body that needs treating.
- Check your device: You can use a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. Your device needs a working camera, microphone, speakers, and internet connection.
- Check your battery: Make sure your device is fully charged or plugged into a power source before your appointment starts.
For more details, read our guide to joining your video consultation (PDF).
