Carers Rights Day is the opportunity for us to remind unpaid carers of their rights:

  • To an assessment of their needs as a carer.
  • To engage in work, education, training or volunteering (if they want) – there is a lot of support for carers who wish to work and for the person that they care for:

Overview: Are you a carer and need help finding a job for you or the person you care for, or are you stuck for career direction? Help is at hand. Amanda Moss from Torquay’s ‘I Can Do That’ talks and answers questions about the one-to-one support into employment for carers and the people they care for. They also support people with mental health issues and help increase confidence and motivation.

Overview: Advice and guidance for employed Carers including Health & wellbeing, resources available to support the caring role, available technology to assist in you in your caring role, and financial planning to support you as a carer.

Overview: EFC Digital – a platform for Employers, HR Professionals, Diversity and Inclusion / Wellbeing Teams, and Line Managers. There are practical resources for people supporting working carers or seeking to develop carer-friendly policies and practices. NB: Employers in Devon with fewer than 250 wholetime equivalent staff can have free access to the platform so contact Katy Heard, Lead Torbay Carers Service.
