Carers Rights Day
Carers Rights Day is the opportunity for us to remind unpaid carers of their rights:
- To an assessment of their needs as a carer.
- To engage in work, education, training or volunteering (if they want). To be involved in care, support and discharge planning if the person you care for is admitted to hospital.
- to be involved in the assessment of the person that you care for, if they consent. If they do not consent to your involvement, you can still share your thoughts / opinions with the person undertaking the assessment.
- to be recognised as a carer. This can include at your doctor’s surgery. Join Torbay Carers for your Carers’ Passport Card to help you achieve this If you are under 16, speak to the Young Carers Service.

Carers Rights Day 2026
Celebrating Carers Rights Day ‘Someone you know is a carer – but do they know it yet?’
Torbay Carers Service and our partner organisations will celebrate Carers Rights Day 2026 at Paignton Library and Information Centre on 21 November between 10am to 2pm. Please come along to speak to one of the team, take part in one of our family-friendly activities or just enjoy free tea or coffee and cake.
This year’s Carers Rights Day topic is ‘Someone you know is a carer – but do they know it yet?’.
Join us to get support for yourself and help others who are caring to get the support they need.
