Carers Week
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring. It highlights the challenges carers face and recognises the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
Carers Week 2025 in Torbay
This year Torbay Carers Service is holding a large number of activities and events to celebrate Torbay’s carers. Most events are ticket only or require pre-booking.
Please view the activities and complete the form below requesting your place on those that you would like to attend. You will be asked for your first, second and third choices so please make the event you would most like to attend your first choice.
We will do our best to accommodate your choices, but some events are very popular and there are only limited places available.
Kevin Dixon presents ‘At your convenience: Torquay’s ‘lave’ affair with the smallest room in the house’, followed by a Devon cream tea. For carers and the person whom they care for.
Paignton Library at 10:30am to 11:30am.
We all use them, but we often don’t talk about them! And when we do talk about them, we call them by many different names. What did we do before they were invented, and how did the private and public toilet evolve? At your convenience, do join us at a light-hearted illustrated talk about the history of toilets in Torbay.
A free tour of Kents Cavern. Carers only.
Meet at entrance 2:15pm. Tour starts 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
Kents Cavern is one of Europe’s most exciting stone age caves. There is a labyrinth of spectacular and easily accessible caverns to explore all year round. Venture into this remarkable prehistoric site with an entertaining tour guide. You will be led on an underground journey, bringing the story of ancient humans and prehistoric animals in Britain to life. Enjoy a drink and snack afterwards and enjoy a 10% discount at their café.

Enjoy creating treat boxes. Refreshments provided.

Clennon Lakes, Paignton at 11am to 12:30pm.
Come along and learn the skills needed to capture beautiful photos around Clennon. There are kingfishers, herons, and dragonflies to name a few. No professional cameras required; you can use your phone camera for some great results. Afterwards, why don’t you enjoy 25% off food at Inn on the Quay. Mackerel fishing with Simon, Carers Aid Torbay. Carers only.
Brixham at midday to 2pm.
Join us aboard an established mackerel fishing boat. We will be fishing from prime fishing locations in the bay. Meet in Brixham. Limited numbers.
Paignton Carers coffee afternoon. For carers and the person whom they care for. Donations welcome.
The Hut, St Paul’s Church, Paignton at midday to 3pm.

Gain a deeper insight into our 800 year-old story. Discover artists, delve into the Cary family, and uncover our fascinating history. The tour covers the history of the Abbey from its early creation, to becoming a family estate, to the present day.

VE Day and Carers Week – honouring heroes and carers. Music with Theresa Moorin, cream tea, quiz, and raffle. Sponsored by Torre Rose Croix Chapter.
Unleashed Theatre Company – Tour of theatre and backstage areas. Free. For carers and person whom they care for.
The Royal Lyceum Theatre, Torquay at 2pm – 3pm.
Find out the history of the building and who has performed there. A short video of Frank Matcham, who was involved in the original design, will also be shown. Carers and the person for whom they care for need to have good mobility due to stairs.
Leisurely leg stretch walk, with Gill Knight, Community Builder Paignton South. Free. For carers and person whom they care for.
Meeting in front of Inn on the Quay, Goodrington at 2.15pm.
Followed by tea or coffee at Inn on the Quay. Parking in Inn on the Quay Car Park is free for carers who buy a tea or coffee at Inn on the Quay afterwards. A return journey on the Dartmouth Steam train. Carers only.
Paignton to Dartmouth at 9:30am. The train leaves at 10am and the return journey gets in at 3.10pm.
Experience seven miles of Great Western tradition. Travel along the spectacular Torbay coast to Kingswear and get a ferry to Dartmouth. You will pass Churston and the wooded slopes bordering the Dart estuary to Kingswear. You will have approximately 2 hours of free time in Dartmouth, where you can stop for lunch, and take a stroll before embarking on our journey home.
Matt Newbury presents Agatha Christie’s – The Adventurer. For carers and the person whom they care for.
Paignton Library at 10:30am to 11:30am.
From a young age growing up in Torquay, Agatha always had an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed sea swimming at Meadfoot, roller skating on Princess Pier and horse riding to Cockington. In this talk, Matt Newbury, Creative Director of the Agatha Christie Festival, looks into this bold and daring side to her character.
Torbay Pride
Torre Abbey Meadows, Torquay. A free inclusive family fun festival.
Come and see us at our stand at Torbay Pride, midday onwards. The parade starts at 11.30am.
